Most of us accept that we have intuition. Some call it a sixth sense. Somehow we manage to access our instincts along with our intelligence. Mostly we do this through our senses. The backs of our ears might tingle. Or it’s a rush of goose bumps prickling up the fore arms. Or vision shifts slightly.
How can this sense go from fleeting to a quick and accessible resource?
All these sensations are your fast twitch muscles communicating. It could be that the 6th sense is your fast twitch muscles speaking. In my research, I’m discovering that our smooth muscles-which include skin, heart, and diaphragm are largely made up of fast twitch muscle cells.
You’ve heard of white and dark chicken meat. Well…we have light and dark muscles too. On chickens-Breast meat is light meat. Low in fat, these muscles run on glucose for quick response and the muscles are mostly made up of fast twitch muscle fibers.
The thigh and leg meat on chickens is dark, marbled with fat designed for endurance, thus slow twitch muscle fiber.

What do fast twitch muscles have to do with intuition? Our intuition is our quick response- our ‘higher mind’ reading the scene inside and outside of us. Yet our ‘mind’ lives inside each cell. That’s right, our mind is beyond our brain.

How exciting to imagine that your Inner Guide rests quietly under your skin. Ahhh the quiet mind is the creative mind. We’re not that far from the animal kingdom. Notice how your hair on your back still rises-like cats when you feel threatened? And how your pupils dilate when excited.

Conjure Your Inner Guide with Water
1-Drink Lots of Water. All day. Our bodies are 75% water. Our skin is nearly 50% water. Remember your skin is your largest organ on your body and is your primary messenger for intuitive hunches. “Go with the flow” and “Be here now” are universal & most classic of all the spiritual messages. Where your attention goes ‘spirit’ flows. Shamans teach us this. Drinking water is the quickest way to conjuring your Inner Guide.
Singing Strengthens Your Intuitive Muscles
2-Hum. Sing. Laugh loudly. These sounds require breathing. The muscles in your lungs and diaphragm twitch with excitement. Sounding vibrates all your cells and floods them with fresh blood and oxygen. Quick breathing is like sprinting and are quick and easy exercises to strengthen your fast twitch muscles. I can do this right now sitting in front of the computer by myself.
Lah Lah Lah, Humm Dee Dummm… I am feeding my intuition with fresh oxygen.
Flood your Self with calming images, thoughts, and feelings.
3-Number 3 is a Big one for me. THE CALM MIND IS THE QUIET MIND
It’s the soft fluid muscle that’s most responsive. Response is what your Inner Guide wants, not reaction. Fear drowns out intuition. Fear and adrenaline make the muscles ‘crunchy’ and stiff-full of lactic acid. The calm mind is the alert mind.

6 STEPS TO BUMP UP YOUR RECEPTION AND RESPONSE TO YOUR INTUITION
Intuition exists in each of us. We were born with it. Many of us are systematically taught to distrust our intuition during our childhood. Later we spend our adulthood developing a relationship with our intuition.
Part of self-help psychology is conjuring our observer self. We learn to listen and respond with choice instead of react impulsively to what the world gives us. Discerning the subtle difference between spontaneous response and impulsive reaction leads us to an intimate relationship with our intuition. Becoming familiar with the voice of our inner guide develops our higher consciousness.
One could say that intuition is the voice of spirit that dwells in all of us and in all things.
Here are 6 AWEsome moves that will increase your reception and response to your Intuition.
1- We experience life through our senses. What senses are most awake? Is it sight, smell, taste, sound, touch? How does an Aha! capture your attention? Pay attention to how your intuition travels through you. Follow the current, the path, the course that your intuition travels. Increase your body awareness. Your intuition speaks through your body sensations.
- Do your ears burn, or your nose itch? Do you feel a prickle at the back of your neck?
- Does your vision widen or the room brighten? Do you have a flash in your mind’s eye like a deja vu or remember a dream?
- Does your intuition travel through your skin like chills down your spine, or feel goose pimples ripple down your arms or crawl up your legs?
- Do your ears muffle almost like you are underwater or does sound warp like in slow motion?
- Can you hear your heart pound like a hammer or hear a loud roar from inside your lungs catching your breath?
2- Imagine your intuition is an energy system. Become familiar with it, like you would become familiar with an owl that visits the large oak tree in your back yard. Track your intuition’s behavior. Does your intuition visit when you are about to fall asleep? Does it drop in during day time naps more than nighttime dreams? When are you most open to a lull-like drift in a day dream? Possibly when you want another cup of coffee, or space out on the computer-that might be a time to just listen and observe ‘self’.
3- What increases your receptivity of your intuition? Your physical, emotional, and spiritual health sharpens your intuition. Professional athletes are devoted to their training. Intuitives develop a practice to stay clear and open physically, emotionally and intellectually. Wisdom is making ‘sense’ of information. Integration transforms tragedy into spiritual breakthroughs. For me I practice conscious movement to get clear, present and focused.

5- Be kind and gentle with yourself. As you develop your intuition, you may open yourself up to more than you asked for. Highly sensitive people are often more receptive to their intuition. Allow yourself rest and allow for more integration time between transitions-like work and play, and between social and private engagements. Like a gardener washes their hands after turning their compost bin- create rituals of how to cleanse yourself after a barrage of input. Densely crowded places can overwhelm your system. Children need a nap after recess; you too can benefit from ‘time out’ after a highly stimulating scene.
6- Keep a journal. Capture your intuitive hits as they come to you as sketches or journal entries of remembered dreams in a place that you can re-visit.
